When does your application open?
Applications for grants can be submitted starting July 15, 2020. Funding is limited and applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. The sooner you apply the greater the chance for funding, assuming you meet all eligibility requirements.
When is the deadline for submitting an application?
The deadline for submitting an application is October 31, 2020. We DO NOT accept applications after this deadline for any reason. Funding is limited and our deadline can change if we run out of funds early. All applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. The sooner you apply the greater the chance for funding, assuming you meet all eligibility requirements.
I applied last year, do I have to apply again this year?
Yes, we require a new application each year.
How do I start a new application?
Once you have logged into the Application Portal, please click on the “Start a New Application” button. You will be directed to a page with four sections: Athlete Information, Adult Information, Hockey Program Information, and Financial Information. You will need to click on each section icon and complete in full. You will see a % completed bar below indicating if you have entered all required information for each individual section.
How do I upload a document?
Click “Choose file” and select the document you wish to upload in the field requiring an attachment. Please ensure your document is less than 10MB in size. We only accept files in PDF or picture (JPEG, GIF, PNG) format.
How do I submit an application?
Once you have completed all four sections of the application and uploaded all required documents, please click on the “Final Review and Submit” button. You will be requested to review the application and can submit. Please note, once you submit you CANNOT go back and make changes to the application.
I have more than one child I would like to apply for, how do I do this on the portal?
Once you have submitted your application in full, please click on the bottom right hand corner “Start Another Application” button. This will take you to the original page to create a new application. You can view all your applications in the “My Applications” tab in the upper left hand corner.
Can I have more than one application in process at once?
Yes, you can view all your applications using the “My Applications” Tab in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Clicking here allows you to view all your submitted and in process applications.
Eligibility & Funding
Who is eligible for funding?
Our grant provides funds for kids between the ages of 3 and 18. Those 17 or 18 must be enrolled in high school. We do not fund kids attending post-secondary.
What fees do you fund?
We ONLY fund hockey registration fees. We DO NOT fund hockey equipment, tournament travel expenses, team fees, volunteer fees, or any fees that are not registration fees.
What type of hockey leagues do you fund?
We fund registration dues for community, grassroots and elite level hockey. However, we do not fund major junior or junior A, B or C programs.
Do you have any restrictions for funding?
The parents of the child must meet our low-income cut-offs to qualify for funding. Please click here to verify your family income falls under these guidelines.
How much do you give per child?
We fund up to a MAXIMUM of $1,000 per child for their hockey registration dues only.
Do I need to be a parent or guardian to apply?
No, but you will need to have the pertinent contact info and financial information for the household in which the child lives and permission from the parent or guardian that, if approved, the child will be permitted to take part in the activity and assume any associated risks. We will accept applications from social workers, teachers, friends of the family, etc.
What documents do I need to apply?
We require the parent(s) Notice of Assessment (for married or common-law, both NOAs are required) as well as the Canada Child Tax Benefit Notice (if receiving this benefit) to verify your financial situation. We also require a copy of the invoice from the Hockey Organization to verify your child’s registration and dues. You must have these documents ready and upload them in the application. Incomplete applications will not be considered for funding.
I don’t have my notice of assessment, can I still apply?
We require this as proof of your financial situation. To obtain a copy of your Notice of Assessment, you can log on to your online CRA account or call 1-800-959-8281 and it will be mailed to you.
I do not have an invoice for my child’s hockey registration, can I still apply?
No, we require this as proof your child is enrolled as well as confirm the hockey registration dues amount. Please contact your hockey organization directly and request this invoice.
Reviews & Acceptance
How can I view the applications I have?
You can view all your applications in the “My Applications” tab in the upper left hand corner.
When will I find out if I received funding?
The application process typically takes four to six weeks to review after we have received your completed application. You will receive an email indicating if your funding was approved or not. Once approved, cheques will be sent out within two to four weeks. Please ensure that you use an email that you check regularly when filling out your application.
How will the money be distributed/paid out?
The money is sent DIRECTLY to the hockey organization. We DO NOT send cheques to homes/parent/guardian.
